2-year-old transplant patient returns home after amazing journey

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - It was a special delivery on Thursday, courtesy of FedEx. The corporation delivered a toddler back home to Memphis after a successful liver transplant. It was a transplant that almost never got off the ground-- but FedEx came to the rescue.

FedEx flew Brooklyn Faris' family home after flying them to Chicago in a winter storm for the little girl's life-saving transplant.

Brooklyn arrived in the Mid-South just after 8 p.m. on Thursday, but this is not the final leg of her journey to recovery.

"We're happy to be home and now we get to play home base from Memphis," said 2-year-old Brooklyn's mother, Jesse Faris.

Brooklyn underwent a liver transplant in Chicago and will still need to make regular trips to the Windy City for checkups.

"Her surgery went really well. It was about eight or nine hours I think. Four weeks ago today," said father Nick Faris.

Brooklyn, who Jesee and Nick adopted knowing the surgery was a necessity, nearly missed the scheduled procedure when commercial flights were grounded last month because of weather. That's when FedEx stepped in and flew the family for free on a cargo plane.

In a statement, FedEx Senior VP Patrick Fitzgerald said the company was pleased to help the family.

We are delighted that Brooklyn's surgery was a success and FedEx was pleased to help get the entire Faris family home to Memphis safe and sound. We wish her all the best for a full and speedy recovery.

"Just the way the story's captured the attention around the nation and the world. We've been so overwhelmed," Jesse said.

Judging by Brooklyn's post-flight energy, the rest of her lengthy recovery should go very well.

Friends and family were told to keep their distance from Brooklyn because she's very susceptible to germs. But, at least she's home.
