Norvell, assistants like what they see on day 2

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Day two of the Memphis Tigers spring practice under new head coach Mike Norvell proved to be a a track meet as much as a football workout.

Tiger players were not just running, but sprinting from session to session at the Murphy Athletic Complex.

Coach Norvell and his assistants ramped up their intensity to match an increase in the speed at which they'll play.

Defensive Coordinator Chris Ball says the Tigers' veteran leadership will help smooth the transition.

"Coming into this situation, seniors help," said Ball. "They're mature, they're patient, they're smart, they've seen a lot of football. So they've been very helpful in the transition."

The Tigers will put on the pads Saturday before taking a couple of days off for evaluation.

The Blue-Gray Spring Game Friday Night Lights is April 22 at the Liberty Bowl.
