FedEx helps rescued otter make it to new home

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - FedEx delivered a rescued otter to Denver's Downtown Aquarium.

Oliver the otter pup was found in early March abandoned at a gas station near Tampa, Florida. A wildlife sanctuary took Oliver in and nursed him back to health.

"I have raised many otters in my 35 years, and I knew this little boy was special right from the start," sanctuary rehabilitator Kris Porter said.

Porter found a spot for Oliver at Denver's aquarium.

Oliver began his trek from Tampa through Memphis on March 23. Bad weather in Denver forced Oliver to spend the night in the Bluff City.

Oliver received first-class treatment at FedEx World Hub. Workers gave him his own pool, shrimp, salmon, and even a stuffed Giant Panda bear.

Workers at Denver's aquarium said Oliver is adjusting to his new home. He will soon go on exhibit with two other North American river otters.
