MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Memphis police are investigating a homicide on Dardon Avenue they said may have been the result of a set-up robbery.
The incident happened in the 1500 block of Dardon, near Lexie Drive. Chopper 5 surveyed the scene from the sky and captured at least eight police cars and a firetruck at the scene.
Jerika Jones didn't know what to think when she awoke from a nap Monday afternoon to find a murder scene just feet from her family's front yard.
"Well, I saw the blue lights through my window and I was like 'what?!" said Jones. "I'm a college student. What if that was me? Just right there. I don't like that at all."
The 21-year-old victim was found shot in the chest in the middle of the street. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but was later pronounced dead. Police said the victim was shot in a car and then dumped into the street.
Investigators said the crime may have happened during a robbery attempt and that it may have been a set-up, possibly involving drugs or gang activity.
Police are searching for two black men they believe are responsible. One of the men has dreads. They left the scene in an unknown vehicle.
"I feel for the parents. I feel for the mothers and the fathers and the siblings that have to go through these things. It's horrible," said Bridget Bradley.
Bradley helped form a group called "Memphis Mothers Against Violence" to try and save a community.
"We've got to come together. We've got to unite; parents need to unite. We've got to do something to help these kids, because it's out of control," said Bradley.
The latest violence is enough to make Jones and her family consider moving out of the area.
"We probably need like a neighborhood patrol or something, because it happens everyday," said Jones.
