MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Firefighters found a body in a home while responding to a fire call Wednesday morning.

Firefighters rushed to Poe Avenue near South Trezevant Street in the Bethel Grove neighborhood. Someone called and said a house was on fire.

Crews said the fire was out by the time they got to the scene, but found a body inside.

Family members identified Courtney Hart as the fire victim. He was paralyzed after a car accident nearly a decade ago, and used a wheelchair to get around. Hart is a father.

Fire officials said his body was found on the floor inside his room near a microwave and small refrigerator.

"This is a boarding house. There are approximately four tenants that live in the structure," MFD LT. Wayne Cooke said.

No other roommates were home at the time.

Friends and family who did not want speak on camera were suspicious that Hart had been left alone.

"This a busy neighborhood around here everybody knows him," a friend said. "Everybody comes by and checks on him."

Hart's caregiver was pulling up as fire crews arrived.

Investigators said there were no flames, but they did notice a previous fire near Hart's bed.

Just minutes before firefighters were called to this scene, crews worked to control a house fire in Frayser where at least one person was injured.
