5 Great Things: Rescued otter, Mike Conley, sheriff honored

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - It's always a great week in the Mid-South and here are five awesome reasons why.

FedEx World Hub workers gave a rescued otter first class treatment when he was forced to spend the night in the Bluff City due to bad weather in Denver. The pup was found in Tampa, Florida, nursed back to health and landed in his new home in Denver's Downtown Aquarium earlier this week.

Mike Conley surprises Bellevue Middle School

Grizzlies point guard Mike Conley gave the Bellevue Middle School boys and girls' basketball teams the surprise of a lifetime--free shoes and basketball drills to improve their game! Both teams have championships under their belts as well as a cumulative GPA of 3.4 and higher.

Memphians already know, now Redfin has told the rest of the world that Memphis is a music mecca! The Bluff City came in ninth on the real estate firm's top 10 list of cities for concert ticket prices, number of events, median home price and walkability.

SCSO deputy saves two dogs

A quick thinking Shelby County deputy saved the lives of two dogs trapped inside a burning home. A deputy spotted the burning home, called for Shelby County Fire, forced his way into the home and found the two dogs hiding under the bed. The dogs and deputy made it out safely.

Hardeman County Sheriff John Doolen was given the Patriot award for his support of Army National Guard members who also work as deputies. Sheriff Doolen was nominated by Sergeant Cody Naylor and PFC Justin Bryant, both deputies and members of the National Guard.
