MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - This year continues to be a wet one in the Mid-South with most of our climate areas having above average rainfall totals. The amount of rain in the month of March makes it the wettest on record in Memphis.
As one of the wettest months of the year, it's typical to get 5.16 inches of rain during the month of March. In 2016, we ended up with a shocking total of 16.2 inches of rain!
In fact, it rained 17 out of the 31 days in March and we set three daily rainfall records. On March 9 and 10 alone, nearly 8 inches accumulated in the rain gauge. This resulted in flooding across the Mid-South that left houses in Clarksdale, MS, nearly under water and almost completed flooded the Wolf River Greenway. We ended the month with another record daily rainfall amount of 2.42 inches on March 31.
