MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Violence is continuing to rise in Memphis, and Mayor Jim Strickland has seen enough.
The mayor said he is working with Interim Police Director Mike Rallings to shuffle staffing and put more officers on the streets.
Strickland said he is also focused on recruiting and retaining police officers for the city in hopes of bringing crime down.
"Crime is completely unacceptable where we are, and I'm honestly very disappointed, but I'm very steadfast and we've got to do more," Strickland said. "And we're doing more."
Strickland said there is a gang injunction in Binghampton and other neighborhoods to shut down gang activities.
Although crime numbers are high, Strickland and the city plan to aggressively address the issue.
