BYHALIA, MS (WMC) - One person is dead and another is in stable condition following a shooting in Byhalia, Mississippi Sunday.
The shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. in the 100 block of Oak Street in the Broadmoor Apartments.
Police said a 23-year-old man was taken to Olive Branch Methodist Hospital by private vehicle. He later died from his injuries. He has been identified as Quintin Sanders.
A second 23-year-old man was taken to Regional Medical Center by helicopter for surgery. He was listed in critical condition. Family identified him as Cody Howard.
According to friends, Howard and Sanders went to high school together and were close friends.
"Some people react before they think. Now days, they're not thinking...just reacting," resident Marshall Garrison said.
Investigators said preliminary investigation shows that the men were fighting with one another, and it escalated to both men shooting at each other. Friends believe the fight started in a club.
This is an ongoing investigation.
