MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center is observing
the month with a Day of Action April 5.
UTHSC hopes to bring awareness to these issues through consciousness-raising and educational programming,
as well as to provide support to victims of sexual assault.
The U.S. began to nationally observe the month of April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month in 2001.
In 2014, President Barack Obama proclaimed the month of April as National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention
Month, urging all Americans to support survivors of sexual assault and work together to prevent these crimes in our communities.
The Sexual Assault Awareness Month "Day of Action" at UTHSC will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Health Sciences Park under the pavilion with food, music and giveaways.
Throughout the month of April, the university plans to sponsor various programs to bring awareness to sexual violence.
