MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

The sewage leaking into Cypress Creek has stopped, but city officials held a press conference Friday to address the concerns the community still has surrounding the leak.

A temporary fix to the sewage leak is in place, but a lot of damage has been done.

Thousands of fish in McKellar Lake have been killed. People are warned not to touch the water, and businesses along the lake said the situation is keeping their customers away.

Mayor Strickland said there is a silver lining.

“Fixing it in just one week is just really good,” Strickland said. And so far, nobody's gotten sick, which is a huge victory too."

The permanent fix for the sewer will cost $8-10 million.

Strickland said money from the sewer fee on MLGW bills should be enough to pay for it.
