MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

WMC Action News 5 continues its mission of being the First to Care, First to Serve, by giving back to those who put their life on the line to serve others.

WMC Action News 5's Joe Birch and Kontji Anthony, along with our partners at Cumulus Radio, presented fallen Memphis firefighter Lt. Rodney Eddins' widow, Denise Eddins, with a check for more than $11,000.

On Monday, April 18, the generosity of Mid-Southerners was evident when they came together during the donation drive to raise funds for the family after Lt. Eddins lost his life in the line of duty the previous weekend.

Lt. Eddins collapsed fighting a house fire on Marigold Lane and was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
