Denver Broncos draft Paxton Lynch with the 26th pick of the NFL draft

With the 26th pick of 2016 NFL Draft, the Super Bowl champs Denver Broncos selected quarterback Paxton Lynch from the University of Memphis.

Lynch is just the fourth Tiger to be taken in the first round of the NFL draft. Lynch is the Tigers first first-round draft pick since Dontari Poe was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2012. The others were Jerome Woods in 1996 and DeAngelo Williams in 2006.

Lynch led the Tigers to the school’s first 10-win season in history as a junior in 2014 in a season that was capped off with a bowl win over BYU.

Already well on his way to becoming the school’s most prolific passer in history, Lynch had a terrific encore as a junior. Lynch threw for 3,776 yards and 28 touchdowns in 2015 on 66.8 percent passing and led the Tigers to a highly successful season that including a huge win over eventual Sugar Bowl champion Ole Miss in a thriller at the Liberty Bowl.

The 6’7 junior quickly became the rage among NFL scouts for his big arm and cool presence in the pocket. This led to the QB deciding to forgo his senior season with Memphis to pursue a professional career. Some scouts even pegged Lynch as the top quarterback in the draft.

It’s too early to tell if Lynch will begin his NFL career as a starting quarterback, but the allure of starting first-round talent right away has been too much for many franchises to hold off on.
