April is closing out with more great things in the Mid-South. Here are five reasons why.

Young Actors Guild

The kids in the Young Actors Guild put on a Michael Jackson tribute called "To Michael, with Love," at the Buckman Center. The guild works to educate, inspire, and motivate Mid-South kids ages three to 17 through performing arts.

10-year-old deaf girl saves mom

A Southaven 10-year-old is credited with saving her mom's life after she couldn't wake her from a nap. Madison Williams called 911, gave them information about her mom's condition, insurance, and medication, and even alerted other family members. Particularly mind blowing since Madison Williams is deaf.

Best Fried Chicken Spot

GQ magazine writer Lang Whitaker visited the Mid-South and ate some fried chicken so incredible, he just had to write a love letter proclaiming it the best chicken in the world. Not surprising to Mid-Southerners, Whitaker was writing about Gus’ World Famous Fried Chicken.

Kids Kan Contest

Bellevue Middle School Bobcats were crowned, for the 23rd time, Mid-South Food Bank Kids Kan champions. Despite 80 percent of the students being eligible for free or reduced lunch, they raised more than 30,000 food items for the food bank.

Zambezi River exhibit

The Zambezi River Hippo Camp is officially open at the Memphis Zoo. The 22 million dollar exhibit features hippos you can see from below and above, as well as Nile crocodiles, and a number of other African animals.
