Beale Street Music Festival withstood some rain Friday afternoon, but it's on and popping in Downtown Memphis!

Gates opened at 5 p.m. according to schedule. The rain couldn't keep dedicated festival-goers at bay.

The performances are scheduled to continue despite the weather, and the mud on the ground isn't going to keep everyone from having a great time.

"Rain or shine, nothing could stop me," Charlotte Malone said.

"We are hoping they play something with a rainy feel...then we'll dance harder!" Christian Hinton said.

Beale Street Music Festival organizers said the show will go on, rain or shine.

"All of our acts have committed to playing rain or shine, so they are ready to go and give Memphis a great show," Memphis In May Marketing Director Penelope Huston said.

The only thing that could stop the festival would be severe weather. In that case, Memphis In May has it's own meteorologist on staff that will make the call on what to do.

"If anything happens that becomes a weather event that isn't safe for our fans and guests, we will pause for weather," Huston said.

But fans are hoping there are no pauses in the music, and they can enjoy the bands they came to see.

"I feel like they are going to be hardcore, and we are going to be ready for them like they are going to be ready for us," Aaron Brasher said.

Rain gear was a popular sight for opening night of the festival.

"When we go to a festival, it's rain gear no matter what," Brian Forester said.

Even during times when the rain has subsided, there are still large puddles filling Tom Lee Park, which has many in their rain boots.

"I think last year was no rain, and that was the only one I can remember when there wasn't any rain," Forester said.

Remember, large umbrellas are not allowed in the festival. The only ones you can bring must fit in your purse.
