MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Memphis police are investigating a shooting that left one person dead and another injured.

It happened in the 2200 block of Airways Boulevard.

Police said upon arrival they found a 21-year-old man lying on the sidewalk unresponsive. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

“I heard all the gun fire,” Willie Wallace Jr. said. “When I came back up here the guy was laying out dead.”

Investigators said the victim got into a verbal confrontation with people in front of the Airways Food Mart.

The victim left and returned to the scene with other men. When the victim returned, two men started shooting.

“It sounded like a war going on,” Wallace said. “I almost had a heart attack. I’m in tears now because of the incident. It upsets me.”

A 23-year-old man was taken to Regional Medical Center in non-critical condition.

Eyewitnesses said the violence started over a belt.

“Somebody had robbed somebody and he went and got his partners and came back,” Wallace said.

Wallace said the violence is not worth it and needs to stop.

“Some stuff is ridiculous; they walk up behind you and shoot you in the back of the head for $20. Have a forgiving heart. Forgive and forget; be humble.”

No arrests have been made at this time.
