Sports Authority closing all stores

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Sports Authority is preparing to close all 450 of its stores nationwide. That includes the four locations in the Mid-South.

The sporting goods retailer filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection in March. At that time, the company indicated that it would only close 150 stores and two distribution centers. But, because Sports Authority is carrying over a billion dollars in debt, it told the U.S. Bankruptcy court it would not reorganize, and instead it would sell the stores.

There is no exact timeline yet when the stores will close, but the company said it will happen in the months ahead.

There are four locations in the Mid-South: three in Shelby County in Germantown, Cordova, and Collierville, and one in Southaven, Mississippi.
