There is still a lot of clean up left to do after a car crashed through a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant on Monday afternoon.

The vehicle ran into the restaurant located on Lamar Avenue, coming just inches from possibly hitting customers and employees.

The customers and employees ran for cover when the car came plowing through the front of the Kentucky Fried Chicken/Taco Bell restaurant. The crash left shattered glass, flowers ripped from the soil, and walls bulldozed from the impact of the crash. Neighbors heard the collision.

"I heard a big boom," Shirley Harper said.

Harper's home is within walking distance from the KFC. She said her daughter was on her way to get some food when the crash happened.

"Then she ran back into the house and said, 'I can't get you no chicken. There is a car up in there," Harper said.

Police said the driver lost control somehow. Firefighters had to pry the doors to the vehicle open to rescue the woman.

"They went up and cut her out of the car," Harper said. "And then the ambulance took her to the car."

The driver was taken to Regional one Medical Center, but is expected to be OK.

Neighbors said this is not the first time they have seen drivers lose control at this intersection.

"One ran into her yard, one ran into my yard," Harper said.

Even though the inside of the business will be under repair in the coming days, the business is still open. They are taking orders through the drive thru.

It is unknown if the driver in this case will face any charges related to the crash.
