MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A couple was robbed in their own driveway in Raleigh on Sunday morning.

Signs warning of security cameras in use in the neighborhood did not stop an armed man from targeting the couple. Memphis police said he surprised them as they parked, stole the woman’s purse, and fired several shots before taking off.

“I mean, it's a pretty quiet neighborhood,” neighbor Anthony Jeffries said. “I would have never guessed anything like that happening out here.”

The suspected robber was later caught on camera at a Covington Pike convenience store, where he’s accused of using one of the victim’s stolen credit cards. Police said the suspect was driving a silver four-door sedan.

The couple said the robber came out of nowhere, something that makes their neighbors leery.

“Although I know there's crime everywhere, I felt comfortable going in and out of my house after dark,” neighbor Jerry Robinson said.

Neighbors said they will now be more vigilant and hope the crook is caught by police.

“I hope they catch him and I hope they prosecute him real good because it's getting out of hand,” Jeffries said.

If you know where the robber may be, call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
