Applications being accepted for Shelby County Mayor’s Youth Council

Shelby County Mayor Mark H. Luttrell, Jr. is inviting young people to serve on the Mayor’s Youth Council. 

“This is our third year for the council.  It’s vital for elected officials to get ideas and suggestions from our next generation of leaders,” Mayor Luttrell said.

The council will attend presentations about Shelby County government and hold a mock presidential debate.  Last year, the students also attended "Government Day" activities and helped a Memphis company design a youth marketing campaign.

Membership requirements:

  • For grades 9-12 beginning in August 2016 and attend public, private, or a home school in Shelby County
  • Have at least a 2.5 GPA 
  • Participate in Government Day activities on Friday, January 6, 2017 
  • Attend at least 10 of 14 council sessions from August 2016 - May 2017
