This possible Big 12 expansion business is getting juicier by the day.
League coaches and Athletic Directors meeting Wednesday in Phoenix are presenting data showing a significant increase in the probability of the conference getting a team in the lucrative College Football Playoff, if the league expands to 12 teams.
That data, from the Chicago firm Navigate Research, shows the Big 12 gets a 10-15 percent better chance of reaching the Playoff with expansion rather than staying in its current 10 team format.
Four to five percent was the original probability mentioned, but that was just for adding a championship game with no expansion.
CBS Sports.com's Dennis Dodd reports the most mentioned expansion candidates are Cincinnati, UConn, UCF, Houston and Memphis, all of the American Athletic Conference, along with BYU of the Mountain West.
Dodd said no decision on the future of Big 12 expansion will be made until the league's spring meeting May 31 through June 3 in Dallas.
