MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Whether or not you have Mexican heritage (or took two years of Spanish in high school), Cinco de Mayo is a day to celebrate.

Cinco de Mayo (translated May 5), commemorates the day the Mexican army was victorious over the much larger and stronger French army at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War.

The holiday is relatively minor in Mexico, but in the US, it's turned into a massive celebration of Mexican culture and heritage.

Memphis is never a city to miss out on a celebration, so here's a list of ways you can celebrate the holiday.

The Art Project Memphis

Make colorful tissue paper flowers for a crown fit for Frieda Kahlo. Stop in for Art Free Play or make a reservation by calling (901)425-3434.

Swanky's Taco Shop

All three Mid-South locations--East Memphis, Germantown, and Southaven-- will feature live music all night and drink specials including $1 jello shots and $4 margaritas. Mem Pops will be available at the East Memphis location.

Bosco's Restaurant

Bosco's is known for their beer, so why not add a little fiesta to your regular order? All day, Bosco's is offering $2 beer-a-ritas, along with pulled pork tamales.

Bar Louie

Get in a festive mood with $5.25 margaritas and $10 chicken tacos.

Los Reyes

If you haven't tried the flavored margaritas at Los Reyes, you're seriously missing out. The good news? Margaritas are just $3.99 all day on Cinco de Mayo! Head to Covington Pike to give it a try.

Bikram Yoga

On Cinco de Mayo, you may start sweating if you eat one too many jalapenos. Or, you could go to Bikram Yoga's Cinco de Mayo-themed Hot Pilates class at 6 p.m. Gane su cerveza (Earn your beer)!

Pub Run

It's no secret that margaritas pack a lot of calories. If you want to burn some of those off while hopping from bar to bar, join up with Breakaway Running on their annual Pub Run!

The run starts at 6 p.m. at the Midtown Overton Square store, then heads to Cafe Ole. From there, the group will head to Hammer & Ale, then up to Slider Inn. The first 100 to sign up will get a free t-shirt!

On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina

This restaurant is boasting Memphis' biggest Cinco de Mayo party at their Wolfchase location. With both live music and a DJ and drink specials until 10 p.m., what could be better? Um, how about a buffet for $5 per person? The outdoor celebration starts at 3 p.m. and is open to all ages with a $5 cover charge.

Peabody Rooftop Party

With a gorgeous night ahead, what better way to spend Cinco de Mayo than on the roof of the Peabody? Enjoy music from Frankie Hollie and We the Kings. Of course, taquitos and chips and dip will be available, along with margarita specials (Cinnamon apple margarita? Yes please).

Admission is $15 at the door, or $150 for VIP. The first 200 women will get in for free.
