Academy Award-winner Kathy Bates and equal rights activist Ruby Bridges-Hall will serve as guest readers at The Ruby Bridges Reading Festival on Saturday, May 14, at the National Civil Rights Museum.

The Ruby Bridges Reading Festival celebrates Bridges’ legacy of advocating for equal rights, education, and tolerance across backgrounds by bringing together children and families from the Mid-South across racial, economic, and educational backgrounds around reading.

Every child who attends the festival will receive a free book. Children’s activities include face painting, balloon animals, a magician, and dancers.

Other guest readers include Ronald McDonald, Mosiah Bridges of Mo’s Bows, and youth leaders of Memphis Challenge.

The event is free and open to the public.

The fun starts at 10 a.m. and goes until 3  p.m. on the NCRM campus.
