Strong thunderstorms possible Monday

A weather system will interact with a moisture-rich environment on Monday, which could cause a few strong thunderstorms. The Storm Prediction Center has placed eastern Arkansas under a slight risk for severe weather. This means that scattered thunderstorms could be strong to severe in this area. The cities of Wynne, Jonesboro, and Forrest City are included in this slight risk.

Scattered showers will be possible throughout the day, but the main severe weather threat will not be until after sunset. A line of heavy rain and thunderstorms will push through eastern Arkansas around 8 p.m. and then move east through Tennessee and Mississippi overnight.

Our entire area will have a chance for flash flooding due to bursts of heavy rain, but the greatest threats will be strong wind gusts and hail for the previously mentioned areas in Eastern Arkansas.

Thankfully, these storms are expected to move through late in the evening, so instability levels will be greatly reduced. However, you still need to stay weather alert on Monday and make sure your weather radio is turned on and working!

Please keep checking back with the First Alert Weather team for updates throughout the day Monday.
