COLLIERVILLE, TN (WMC) -

If you are looking to buy insurance, the states of Tennessee and Mississippi are warning you to stay away from David Uthe.

Insurance investigators say the 55-year-old Collierville man is not licensed agent, but has been selling policies and collecting premiums in the Memphis area and parts of North Mississippi.

Uthe's license was revoked by the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance in February 2009 for the misappropriation of over $50,000 in premiums, issuing fraudulent policies, and engaging in fraudulent and dishonest practices. Investigators also believe Uthe is using his dead father's name, Marvin Uthe, as well as the name Uthe Financial Services to conduct fraudulent activity.

TDCI officials say Uthe does not have authority to sell insurance or collect premiums from anyone or on behalf of any company. Law enforcement has also been contacted and the investigation is ongoing.

Those who have purchased a policy or paid premiums to David Uthe are encouraged to contact TDCI's Financial Services Investigation Unit immediately at (615) 253-8841 or click here to submit a complaint online.
