Three men were convicted Saturday in the 2012 robbery and beating death of a 61-year-old man in his apartment.

A jury convicted Ashton Buford, 21, Melvin Hopkins, 22, and Devante Terrell, 23, of first-degree murder, aggravated robbery, and especially aggravated robbery.

The three defendants were automatically sentenced to life in prison for the murder and will be sentenced for the other crimes on June 1, according to District Attorney General Amy Weirich.

The victim, Jessie Wilson, was severely beaten by the three defendants on July 25, 2012, in his apartment in the 500 block of Jefferson Avenue. He died on September 30, 2012, from injuries he suffered from the beating, according to Weirich.

According to prosecutors, the fourth defendant, Robert Armstrong, still has his case pending. Armstrong had just turned 15 years old the day of the crime.
