MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Memphis Police Department is searching for four people who kidnapped a man from a gas station and beat him.

The beating happened Saturday at the Exxon on South Bellevue Boulevard.

"He was beaten about an hour and 30 minutes in the store and 30 minutes outside the store," witness Mark Payne said.

Payne saw the whole thing and calls it senseless, brutal, and down right dumb

"Stomping him in his face, kicking him in his face, hitting hit him in his face," Payne recalled.

Police have surveillance video of the four suspects and their SUV, but they have not released their identities. Police said the victim knows at least one of the attackers.

"I heard one of them say, 'You stole something,' and 'Why did you run?' and the dude hollered he didn't do it," Payne said. "I think God put me there for a reason."

He said things could have been worse. He believes he was at the right place at the right time.

"One of them said they wanted to shoot him on the lot, but I was standing there with my security shirt on and that's the only reason they didn't kill him right there," Payne said.

MPD has not released the identity of the victim either. If you know anything call police, 901-528-CASH.
