A woman recorded an alligator on the side of the road in Mississippi.

The woman posted video of the gator to her Facebook page Monday. She said she spotted the gator on Highway 61 in Tunica.

The gator can be seen walking along the side of the road and in the grass off the side of the road.

Gators are a common sight in Mississippi, but according to Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks, they do not usually venture all the way up to Tunica.

Nonetheless, Tunica County residents are a bit concerned.

"That's a real alligator?" Andrica King said.

"That's a bit scary," said Moses Adams.

Tourists said they have never seen an alligator going back and forth from the casinos.

"I can't believe it; where did it come from?" Dennis Karinen asked.

Mississippi Department of Wildlife representative Ricky Flynt said while it is uncommon for gators to be seen in North Mississippi, it is mating season.

Safety tips when spotting an alligator include:

  • Don't attempt to catch an alligator
  • Don't swim in rivers, creeks, or lakes at night.
  • Never intentionally feed an alligator.

Some people have their own suggestions.

"I suspect you want to get in your car and get away as fast as possible," Adams said. "But make sure you call someone."

"Go 180 degrees from where he's going, I know that," Karinen said.
