MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

New Memphis Tigers Head Football Coach Mike Norvell delivered a message of unity to the Memphis Rotary Club on Tuesday.

Norvell spoke at the group’s weekly luncheon. He said he wants to build his first football program based on service, accountability, and respect.

Norvell said he’s not expecting fans to trust he’ll deliver a winner, but said it is his job to show them one.

"You watch the practices, the scrimmages, the spring game," Norvell said. "We're not where we need to be for game one, but the great thing is we're not playing tomorrow. So we continue to build over what we've done over the four or five months. We've been in the process of where we're going. I think we're on track, but I want it done yesterday."

Norvell said he has plenty more player evaluations to do before his first full freshman camp arrives.

The Tigers will open their season at the Liberty Bowl against Southeast Missouri State on September 3.
