Wife of Amber Alert suspect pleads for Carlie Trent’s safe return

NASHVILLE, TN (WMC) -

Gary Simpson's family begged for him to return 9-year-old Carlie Trent and turn himself in during an interview with an East Tennessee TV station.

TBI said Simpson took Carlie out of school in Rogersville, Tennessee, on Wednesday, May 4, without permission. An Amber Alert was issued shortly thereafter.

Simpson's wife, Linda, said she called her husband and left several messages, but has not heard from him. She said this is the longest they have gone without talking in their 34 years of marriage.

"Bring her home. We will get you some kind of help, some way somewhere, but you know you've got to bring her home," she pleaded. "Stop and think and let reality hit you in the head. You've got to stop and think what you're doing. I mean this is crazy."

Gary Simpson is believed to be driving a white conversion van with a Tennessee license plate and tags, 173GPS.

A $15,000 reward is offered for information that helps find Trent or Simpson. Call 1-800-TBI-FIND if you have any information that can help.

Anyone interested in contributing to the reward fund can call (423) 923-9100.
