MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Some Mississippi daycares are changing their policies to prevent children from dying in hot cars.

A 2-year-old died in Madison County, Mississippi this week after police said her mother forgot to go to daycare and left the child in the car.

Many daycares are now making it a policy to call parents if a child is more than an hour or two late.

"I always try to find ways to do things better around here and it just hit me hard," Felicia Chipley, Busy Bees Daycare and Kindergarten, said. "We have every opportunity to prevent something like this. All childcare centers do."

Experts said you can also leave something essential, such as a shoe or purse, in the backseat with your child. That way you are always checking the child's seat when you get out of the car.
