MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A Binghampton woman decided to take her teenage daughter’s fight in her own hands with a gun.

Police said she waved the gun at five children sitting in a car at Lester Community Center.

"I heard something like some girls wanted to fight her daughter and she went to the school, went to the community center. I didn't hear about no gun,” neighbor Erma Jones said.

Police said Jennifer Davis had a .38 and pointed it at five children and another woman who were inside a car.

"That's bad; don't do that no matter what,” Jones said.

Police said Davis approached the woman because she was upset. She believed the children in the car had been trying to fight with her daughter. Investigators said Davis started yelling and wouldn’t let the woman in the driver’s seat close the car door.

Jones, Davis’s neighbor, said Davis is usually quiet and keeps to herself.

"It's just a bad neighborhood,” Jones said. “She probably just have to protect the kids, but that's still not no way to be."

Ashara Evans has two young daughters and lives nearby. She does not trust the neighborhood.

“I just stay in the house,” Evans said.

Davis was taken into custody and refused to give a statement. Police found the .38 in her purse.

Neighbors said the Lester Community Center is usually a great place for children to go and is usually very safe.

"It's very nice, you know,” April Woods said. “It's a nice place for the kids to go and my kids go there for after school care. You know that's crazy."

Davis is charged with six counts of aggravated assault.
