MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A man is dead after a shooting in Orange Mound Friday night.

The shooting happened in the 3000 block of Kimball Avenue.

Police said a 40-year-old man was found lying on the ground with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"To see someone can just be killed like that and lying in the street like that,” neighbor Katharine Norris said. “That’s a travesty that you would do that without even thinking a child could be watching."

Norris said looking at the street in front of her home brings her many questions. According to neighbors, the man was found just feet from the entrance of a daycare.

"I just thank God it wasn’t during the day when it was open and the children would have seen it,” Norris said.

Seeing how close the bullets were to a place children are taken care of reminds the neighborhood that something needs to be done to stop the violence.

"Why don’t we just come together and think about human beings?” Norris asked. “It’s sad. You can just pick up a gun and shoot someone without even thinking about it, realizing what’s going to happen after.”

Police have not made any arrests at this time and are still investigating.

According to Memphis Police Department, this is the 84th homicide in the city of Memphis this year.
