The countdown is on for grocery stores in Tennessee to start selling wine.

Kroger started stocking its first stores with wine Monday. On July 1, Tennessee shoppers will be able to buy anything from white zinfandels to cabernet sauvignons in grocery stores.

"I think it's a great thing," Kroger customer Anthony Parks said. "It makes it a lot more convenient for your average individual."

Kroger is understandably excited about the new law too.

“We are excited to see this opportunity begin to come to fruition for our Tennessee shoppers,” Kroger Delta Division vice president Randall Melton said. “We believe this will save our customers valuable time and offer a great level of convenience.”

The law will create more competition for liquor stores like The Stellar Cellar Wine and Spirits, which is located right next to Kroger off Highway 64 in Cordova.

"I think we'll be fine because 'A' we focus our customer service," Chris Schirmer with The Stellar Seller Wine and Spirits said.

And 'B' because of a focus on smaller wineries like Sleight of Hand.

"What we'll focus on is those brands that we can pair with that food they're getting next door with that wine they can't get next door," Schirmer said.

Even though Kroger is already stocking its shelves full of wine, you won't be able to buy any wine from Kroger or any other grocery store until July 1.
