A Memphis teen who was shot last week is praying she'll be out of the hospital just in time to walk down the aisle at her graduation.

Quanisha Sims, 18, is recovering in a hospital bed after she was shot only a day before her senior prom.

"I'm feeling good, but at the same time miserable too," Quanisha Sims said.

Quanisha Sims was so happy and ready for her senior prom last Friday.

"It was my last year and something that I was going to remember," Sims said. "Why did it have to be me?"

Police said Sims was getting a perm at her North Memphis home when her sister's boyfriend, who police identified as Tavarius McKay, shot her.

Witnesses told police McKay was inside the home playing with his gun when the gun somehow went off.

"The gun and the bullet and the fire came towards me, and I just grabbed my chest, and I went to my mama's room and I said 'Tevarious just shot me,'" said Sims.

Sims missed her senior picnic Monday and could miss other senior events, too, because she's still recovering.

She has words for people who choose to play with guns.

"You don't know when it's going to go off or what's going to happen," Sims said.

Sims said she hopes to be home sometime this week, just in time to attend a few of her final senior activities at Booker T. Washington High School. Her graduation is set for Saturday, May 28.
