MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Memphis police caught a man with his pants full of merchandise walking out of a Kroger.

Police said the Frayser Boulevard Kroger’s store manager notified an off-duty MPD officer that Gary Johnson, 27, took several items off the shelves and stuffed them into his pants.

The total amount of the items found in Johnson’s pants was $339.78.

"It's too noticeable (laughs)," one customer said. "Looks like the Michelin tire guy."

The off-duty officer detained Johnson just outside the store until another officer arrived.

A bystander captured a video of police pulling the stolen items from Johnson’s pants, which were filled to the brim with goods.

"Hey, ain't that the whole aisle 10?" one customer joked, as a Kroger employee helped officers toss the items into a shopping cart.

Johnson was arrested and charged with shoplifting and assault.

He is also accused of biting the security guard who initially detained him.

It's not his memorable arrest, but the crime itself, that some considered a lesson for others.

"What not to do," one customer said.
