A Memphis police officer said a woman in a car dragged him through a parking lot.

The officer said he walked up to the woman's car in the parking lot at the Burlington Coat Factory on Stage Road.

Memphis Police Department said it received calls about a suspicious person at the store. When the officer approached her, she drove into him and dragged him through the parking lot.

"I was worried about her safety at the time,” Harvey Ferguson said.

Ferguson said his cousin was working inside the Burlington Coat Factory when a woman tried to steal something. The cousin told him she was up to the same thing the day before, but this time employees were onto her and called police.

"I believe they are watching, but there wasn't enough is what it was,” Ferguson said.

The woman was last seen driving south on Covington Pike. Investigators believe she is driving a black Lexus.

"Crime is getting ugly,” shopper Eddie Harris said. “They are doing everything to the officers these days.”

Memphis Police Department said the officer is fine. He sustained minor injuries but was not taken to the hospital.

"Stop all this craziness taking from each other. We need to help each other," Harris said,

Ferguson said he shops at the store often and hopes the crime stops so he can feel safe again.

"There’s a lot of crime going on right now that doesn't need to be here,” Ferguson said.
