MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

During Tuesday's graduation ceremony for Memphis Area Health Science Middle School's 8th graders, a local mentoring program donated $50,000. 100 Black Men of Memphis helped found the school in 2003 and continues to offer support for the students through mentoring and helping with free education for minority students in Memphis.

"We are proud to support MAHS and it’s mission of 'Changing Minds One Life at a Time,'" Executive director Rev. Corey Johnson said. "The Memphis Academy of Health Sciences has made outstanding achievements in educating students and for that we will continue to support and have a presence across both campuses of the institution. The children of Shelby County deserve the free, high quality education that is provided by the professional team of leaders at MAHS."

In addition to the generous donation, 100 Black Men of Memphis seeks to improve the lives of young African-Americans with the "Four the Future" program. Through mentoring, health & wellness, education, and economic empowerment, the group hopes to inspire youth and develop self-reliance.  The Memphis Area Health Sciences schools work to provide education in healthcare careers for its students.
