NASHVILLE, TN (WMC) -

Governor Bill Haslam will join leaders in the construction industry Wednesday to launch "Go Build Tennessee" at the State Capitol in Nashville.

The initiative will address a current skills gap and labor shortage in the industry by informing young people and others about the opportunities within the construction field.

Wednesday marks the beginning of targeted efforts involving a “Go Build” marketing campaign, including a website explaining career paths and trade information and social media outreach. There will also be additional classroom tools for educators to use and more.

“Go Build Tennessee” was enacted during the 2015 legislative session with the support of industry associations including Associated Builders and Contractors of Tennessee, the Associated General Contractors of Tennessee, the Home Builders Association of Tennessee and the Tennessee Road Builders Association.

The $3.5 million campaign is funded through industry collected fees and will be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit comprised of various industry representatives.
