MFD investigate arson at downtown high rise apartment

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Memphis Fire Department is investigating an arson at a downtown high rise, Court Square Center.

The fire was intentionally started in the bedroom Tuesday night, according to MFD.

When firefighters arrived at 11:30 p.m., smoke was visible from the 5th floor of the building. The fire took about an hour and half to get under control with 36 first responders. A working sprinkler system did help stop the fire from spreading until firefighters could arrive.

The damage is estimated at $18,000 structure and $23,000 contents, according to the fire department.
