A Memphis police officer was arrested Marion, Arkansas, Wednesday.

The officer is charged with domestic violence.

According to Crittenden County Sheriff's Department, the victim told deputies that Christopher Brown, a Memphis police officer, was intoxicated. An argument broken out around 1 a.m. Wednesday between Brown and his family.

He began shouting and using profanity toward the victim and other family members. He's also accused of throwing furniture and demanding to go back inside, because he'd been kicked out of the house for a physical altercation he had with his wife and stepson.

The victim said her husband tried to calm Brown down, but it lead to another physical altercation. Investigators said Brown pushed the man and began to attack him.

"This is family. You're supposed to love your family and that's very difficult," Arkansas resident Carol Fick said. "I can't imagine me doing anything to my family member."

Residents said police officers need to be held to a higher standard because of their position with the police department.

"They need to be held accountable for it, because they're a public figure and I believe they should have a little bit more standards than most of us," Joey Bogard said. "Well it doesn't matter where you go, all the laws are the same."

According to Memphis Police Department, Brown was off duty when the alleged incident took place.

Memphis Police Department said Officer Brown has been relieved of duty pending the investigation. Interim Police Chief Michael Rallings would not comment on the incident Friday.

Brown is charged with third-degree domestic battery.
