Dedric Lawson has taken his name out of the NBA Draft once again, and will return to the University of Memphis for his sophomore season.
WMC Sports Director Jarvis Greer spoke to Lawson's mother, Dedra, on the phone Thursday. She said her son says he learned a lot about what he needs to work on at the NBA Pre-Draft Combine in Chicago, all of it having to do with the physical aspect of the pro game.
While Lawson's 7'2" wingspan and 9.5" hand size are elite level, his athleticism in individual drills was at or near the bottom of the 70 players invited to the workout. That's something the 6'8", 224lb. forward will have plenty of time to work on, given he won't turn 19 years old till October 1st.
New Memphis Head Coach Tubby Smith credits Dedric's Dad, Keelon Lawson, now the Tigers Director of Player Development, with giving his son sound advice.
