Ending the week with rain

Estimated rainfall Friday Estimated rainfall Friday

We've had a bit of a rainy pattern in place this week, but not really that much in the way of accumulated rainfall. There was one one hundredth of an inch Monday and seven hundredths of an inch Tuesday.

By 5 a.m. Friday, 0.55 inches of rain had fallen in Midtown Memphis.

Before Friday, the total rainfall in Memphis for the month of May was 1.3 inches. That's just over two inches below average for the month thus far, but we are almost nine inches above average for the year so far.

Friday, the heaviest precipitation will fall in northern Mississippi. Parts of northern Mississippi could receive one to two inches of rain by the time it's all said and done.

Most of the rain will move into middle Tennessee and northern Alabama by midday Friday with only a few isolated to widely scattered showers lingering into the afternoon and early evening hours.  Dry air will rapidly move into the Mid-South Friday night, leading to a great weekend.

We can expect plenty of sunshine and temperatures warming into the lower eighties by Sunday.  So make sure you have the umbrella handy Friday and plan to add a little extra time to your Friday morning commute.
