MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Police were involved in a stand off situation in Frayser early Friday morning.

Multiple shots were fired inside a home where children were sleeping.

Police said at 2:30 a.m., a man and his wife, later identified as Edward and Dinishia Jones, called 911. They told police someone broke into the home and shots were being fired. When police arrived, they heard more shots from inside the home.

"I was awakened to gunfire. I heard several shots, maybe five or six," neighbor Willie Wells said.

However, police later learned the couple who called 911 were the ones who fired 12 shots into the home. Edward Jones is the homeowner's cousin. She has three kids-- 8 years old, 9 years old, and 13 years old-- that were all inside the home at the time.

"I was thinking if they come out shooting where would the bullets go," Wells said. "Because once they start shooting, bullets can go anywhere."

After more than an hour of negotiations, police were able to get the couple, the homeowner, and three children out of the house. No one was injured.

"It was amazing by the grace of God nobody actually got hurt. It came out pretty smoothly and calmly," Wells said.

The couple were both arrested and taken to jail. Police said they had not been called to that house in the past year.
