With several NBA teams filling their head coaching positions, the Memphis Grizzlies are now one of only two teams left to name a new Bench Boss..and the Houston Rockets are reportedly set on hiring Mike D'antoni for their vacant position.
After seeing their top target, Frank Vogel, commit to the Orlando Magic, the Griz now are left to choose from a pool of NBA Assistants, and, possibly, one familiar name.
First the Assistants in no particular order:
Current San Antonio Spurs Assistant James Borrego has head coaching experience, albeit limited, as the interim head of the Orlando Magic for 30 games last season.
Borrego is said to be extremely organized and brings the WOW factor to his interview with complete knowledge of a team's personnel, its strengths, weaknesses, and company structure.
Plus, he comes from the Spurs organization that's arguably the best in all professional sports.
Then, there's Miami Heat Assistant David Fizdale.
Fizdale's top quality is reportedly his ability to communicate with players, other coaches and team personnel, to build winning relationships.
Fizdale was able to take strong personalities like LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, and build them into cornerstones for two NBA Titles.
Portland Assistant Nate Tibbets is one of the last coaches interviewed by the Grizzlies.
He was an Assistant with the Cavs for 2 seasons before going to the Blazers in 2013.
Before that, Tibbets was Head Coach of the NBA Developmental League Tulsa 66ers, taking that team to the League Finals.
A strength of Tibbets is said to be his ability to work well with Management.
The familiar name?
He led the Grizzlies to their only trip to the Western Conference Finals in 2013, but his contract was not renewed the next season.
Hollins has talked with Grizzlies General Manager Chris Wallace, who maintains there is no timetable for naming a new head coach.
