Multiple shootings in Helena-West Helena, Arkansas, left one person dead and one person in critical condition.
The shootings happened Friday.
Helena-West Helena Chief of Police Virgil Green said police officers were at a graduation party in the area of Perry Street and Oakland Avenue in Helena.
Chief Green said a large group of people gathered for a high school graduation afterparty. While officers were on the scene, several fights broke out. As a crowd began to gather, officers heard one gunshot and found 19-year-old Devon Bridget on the ground with a gunshot wound.
Bridget was taken to Helena Regional Hospital by private vehicle. He pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
A second gunshot victim arrived at the emergency room roughly 45 minutes after the first victim. The second victim had been shot in the area of Cherrydale Place and Kentucky Street.
The second victim, Markius Carpenter, was flown by helicopter to a Memphis hospital in critical condition.
Chief Green said due to the multiple crime scenes, the death of Bridget, and another victim in critical condition, the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division has been asked to assist in the investigations.
Police said they have several possible suspects detained.
