MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A man was found dead in Cooper-Young Sunday morning.

Officers said they received a man down call at McLean Boulevard at Evelyn Avenue just after 6:30 a.m.

"We didn’t know if anyone was back there and then we noticed someone was down and the police have it barricaded off,” witness Terry Newman said.

According to police, a 20-year-old man was found dead in a driveway that leads to railroad tracks in the 800 block of S. Mclean Boulevard.

"Next thing you know, we hear what sounded like a semi-automatic reel off about 5 or 6 rounds. That was at about 10:30," Newman said. "We went inside, ran inside figuring something bad was happening. Called 911 and while we were in there, we hear another four or five get reeled off."

Police are investigating the death as a homicide.

Neighbors said a discussion between a man and a woman turned to gun shots, but it’s not clear if the two are related.

"We had to play the Memphis game of gun shots or fireworks,” Newman said.

Investigators do not have any suspect information at this time.
