When you're dealing with 21-year-olds, mistakes happen.
For the St. Louis Cardinals, a second mistake meant not having their top prospect for nearly two months to start the season. Pitcher Alex Reyes, who was expected to make his major league debut this season, had to sit out 50 games after a second positive test for marijuana back in the fall.
The right-hander, who finished last season in double-A, made his triple-A debut in front of the home crowd at Autozone Park Sunday, striking out the first batter he's seen this season.
Known for his hard throwing, Reyes consistently hit the upper 90s with his pitches and finished the day with an impressive 4 innings pitched, allowing just 2 hits and striking out 8.
The Redbirds also got the 8-1 victory.
Memphis hits the road for it's next 8 games. The Redbirds are back home Tuesday, May 31 against New Orleans.
