A murder suspect who was on the run is back in jail Monday night.
Two months after she was charged with killing a 15-year-old, Terry Turner disappeared.
Turner, who is transgender and identifies as a woman, was charged with second-degree murder in the shooting of 15-year-old Vianca Harris.
Turner’s charges were dismissed when a witness failed to show up for a hearing in April, and Turner was released.
"It’s a whole big, strange situation. It really is a sad situation, but it’s strange,” neighbor Trina Shorter said.
Neighbors said they hadn't heard from Turner since she was charged in March,
Harris was pregnant when she was shot and killed. Turner said the shooting was an accident.
“That's kind of crazy. I don't even know why they released him,” neighbor Barbara McKnight said.
Prosecutors figured Turner would be indicted, and they were right. On May 17, she was indicted for second-degree murder.
However, investigators were unable to find her until Monday, May 23. It's unclear at this time where they found her, but she was booked back into the Shelby County Jail just after 10:15 p.m.
"I believe the state would pick it up,” Shorter said. “You just can't murder somebody and then you just walk away like nothing happened."
