MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

What was once a mound of dirt near Cordova's Wolfchase Galleria is now transforming into Tennessee's first IKEA Store.

Tuesday, IKEA erected the iconic yellow letters on the front of the building.

"It makes me want to go right over there," Carolyn Ellzey said.

"When you put the letters up, it's a final stage right there," Gary Williams said.

Most of the outside of the soon-to-be IKEA is together, but the walls aren't up just yet.

Construction leaders said everything is on track. They expect to open the doors this Fall.

Shoppers in the area said they can hardly wait.

The store will feature 10,000 exclusively designed items, 50 fully decorated showrooms, and a restaurant with those famous Swedish meatballs. For parents, the store will feature free supervised child care areas.

This IKEA is different than many others, because it is completely contained on one floor. Builders said that will make it easier for shoppers to get around the store.

"I look forward to another good place to shop," Ellzey said. "Sounds like they have a lot of wonderful things"

So far, IKEA has hired more than 500 people for construction, and it plans to hire around 200 more to work inside the store.

IKEA said it will start posting jobs on its website. Click here to search for an IKEA job.
